Alright, I've given up on WWP and switched to Worms Armageddon.

After afew alterations, I got it working! HOORAY.

...except when I try to play over TCP/IP (through hamachi), I can see people in the lobby and chat but when I make a game, the connection times out and when I try to join their game, all the menu buttons in game lock but the background still moves and I can move the mount... but I'm practically forced to Alt+F4 it

    What's going on there O_o

The thing where the frontend stops responding to input after you close a dialog is a known bug in Wine. It doesn't prevent joining games, but it does force you to restart wa when there's an error joining a game.

Hosting/joining games has been known to work; the problems you are having are probably not because of Wine. See http://www.nanacide.com/wahelp/wnguide-nohost.php and http://www.nanacide.com/wahelp/wnguide-nojoin.php

Edit: Apparently hamachi is something else I haven't heard of. I'd recommend using either real wormnet (you'll need to use the auto-login link) or IP games.
