Running Sage Timberline workstation under Wine
Sage Timberline (version 9.4.1) is a Windows 2003 Server based accounting system which is normally accessed by workstations. To setup the workstation client under Windows, one maps a drive to the server share, moves to the Accounting/wininstall directory, and clicks on Install.exe. This calls up the Timberline Main Menu, one selects Install Timberline, and it loads the necessary software client on to the workstation.
I wanted to try running the Windows workstation client under WINE, so mapped a drive to the Server share - let's call it x: - and at a terminal prompt as root, typed:
wine "x:\Accounting\wininstall\install.exe"
This worked perfectly, and brought up the Timberline Main Menu.
"Fantastic,", I thought, and selected the "Install Timberline" option, which brought up this error message:
"The installed version cannot be directly upgraded. Upgrade to version 8.3.0, and then upgrade to the version that you want to install.".
I have been able to reliably repeat this many times - the above command under Wine produces the lines about the wrong version, the same command on a Windows workstation loads the client properly.
Can anybody shed any light on what might be happening, please?
