windows media player with wine

i have tryed it, but it would generate an error when it tryed to run. but then again im a linux n00b, so it might be possible. i just use mplayer in linux

What's the point of this?

Use amaroK or XMMS for music and
Kaffeine, Xine, mplayer, etc for videos

Even on Windows I can't see it nessacary to run WMP. There are many other FREE alternitives to WMP that don't hog all your resources.

i would agree, i reccommend xmms personally as a nice easy to use winamp-style player :)

You can down load a program call winetools. this will install and configure it for you. I was able to get it work, but I could not get it to play music from the internet. Even when running IE explorer through wine it would bring up media player but there was not anysound.

There is no reason to run Windows Media Player or Internet Explorer in Linux. In fact, I don't advise it since both of these programs are a serious security threat (although less so when running on Linux). There are plenty of Linux-native applications that can run all media formats and stream audio over the internet. They have been mentioned in this thread already.

Try using Kaffeine. It works for me.
If you have yum. Use
yum search Kaffeine
and install it.

my kaffeine ALWAYS has sound problems

Despite the fact that i hate M$, i have come to like their Media player. though its not necessary, id prefer to have it. But since we dont always get what we want, i was wondering if there was another media player for linux that had .WMV and .WMA support
