Searching for networks is easy enough. From the command line as su:
Code:
iwlist (your wireless device) scanning
Example:
Code:
iwlist ath0 scanning
May I ask why you need to find mac addresses of other computers? Or do you mean the mac addresses of routers?

If those wireless networks are open then they likely won't care if you get connected. If they are closed, encrypted or filtered by mac address then they obviously don't want unauthorized persons accessing their network. Their wishes should be respected. Why don't you ask them if they will let you on? You'd be surprised at how generous many folks are with their wireless networks if they are just asked.
