SuSE 11 & bcm43xx chip-set

Just an FYI, for all openSUSE11. users who have the bcm43xx chip-set in their wireless device.

1 ) make sure you are on a wired connection first
2 ) open a console & type in this

Code:
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware
&press enter

3 ) this *should* install the necessary firmware for your device. re-boot to activate the device, then, go to YaST - network devices - network settings & set up your wireless device as normal

Hope this helps someone

Good info, thanks!

I am planning on installing SuSE 11 soon, and I have a Broadcom wireless, so this will help.

In a related matter. I see on the Linux Wireless-firmware installation page, there are special instructions for Ubuntu and Debian users.
Code:
sudo /usr/share/b43-fwcutter/install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh
And just to clear up any confusion over the name. Newer kernels should be using the b43 driver, not the bcm43xx driver, regardless of the firmware installation script's name (install_bcm43xx_firmware).

Reading this page will help any one who is confused with the version info.

That's the exact same page and section that I linked to.

You still get an "A" for effort.
