    Ubuntu Wireless Internet

    Alright, I just installed Ubuntu this afternoon and have been wrestling with it for the past two hours trying to get it to connect to my wireless network. I have an HP notebook and I've been so far unsuccessful. Any help that can be given would be nice

    Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and let it install the drivers it tells you.
    It will also install the video driver if you have nvidia or ati. You must be connected to the internet with a network cable to do this.

    alright, my wireless card is a Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI

    Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and let it install the drivers it tells you.
    It will also install the video driver if you have nvidia or ati. You must be connected to the internet with a network cable to do this.
    I did this but it didn't tell me to install anything

    Please copy and post ALL of the info from ALL of the commands that the thread asked for. The exact output is needed to determine a course of action. Since it is not a USB card, that output isn't needed. I also changed the dmesg command to provide a more specific output (and smaller output).

    Now, here is the important info on your card:

    You have rev 2, which may require a kernel patch:
    b43 - Linux Wireless

    That info may be a bit dated, so I would try it without a patch first. Now here is the driver module (b43), and all of the related modules:

    But I'll bet that this is your problem, that is why I asked you to run that specific command. All Broadcom wireless cards need firmware installed before they will work. You can actually go to the link listed in the error, and follow the instructions to download and extract the firmware.
