New user needs help finding/install wireless card drivers

I am new to Ubuntu, and linux in general, and am having a blast so far. I am hoping you guys can help me install my wireless card though. It is a Proxim Orinoco 802.11b PC Card GOLD. It worked up until I took XP off my laptop and put on Ubuntu 8.10. I had it inserted when I ran lspci but I don't see it listed. The lights on the card don't even light up. I hope that doesn't mean it won't work with Ubuntu. Any assistance would be appreciated.

*****@stealth:~$ lspci -nn

Doesn't look like it's seeing the card. As far as I can tell, it's an orinoco chipset...those should be supported out of the box. Here's some info that might point you in the right direction. The Wavelan IEEE/Orinoco and its friends

That's correct, the card is not being properly detected. I doubt that it will work until it shows up on the lspci list.

Try inserting it before you boot up. And if that won't work, try removing and re-inserting it, and run lspci again. Make sure the card's contacts are clean, and the slot's contacts too. If you use contact cleaner, make sure that you first remove the power supply and battery. Also then press the power button for several seconds, to discharge any power stored by system capacitors.

It also could be an on/off switch on the card itself. Check that it is actually on.
