The Broadcom 4328 (your card) does not have native support in Linux. the only way to use it is by using NDISwrapper and the WinXP driver. This is the same for ALL Linux distros. If you installed Ubuntu and it worked without doing anything, then it automatically installed NDISwrapper along with the WinXP driver.

I don't believe that Ubuntu does this, as a Windows driver is considered to be proprietary software. If it is working, could you post some details so we can find out how?

The same info that you posted at the start of this thread would be good. This time surround it with

tags. For more info on this, read this:

Thank you VERY much for that info!

It appears that Ubuntu is using the wl kernel module for this card, it is from the Linux_STA driver. I had forgotten about that diver, it is an alternative to using NDISwrapper. Since it too is a proprietary driver, I wouldn't think that it would install by default. Did you have to first "enable" it in the Driver Manager GUI?

Here is a link to the source files of that driver. You can then install them on any Linux distro.

Broadcom Corporation - Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA driver

A while back, I wanted to post the release of this driver as "News", but we don't have a "News" section in the forum.

Thanks for jogging my memory, I'll have to make a How-To sticky for this. Anyone wanna install it and help?

I added this driver to the Software downloads section of the forums:

alright awesome, im glad this is working out like this. i was under the impression that this wireless card was not reverse engineered to run on linux yet.

It hasn't been reversed engineered yet. The wl driver is developed by Broadcom, and therefore not open source. This won't bother too many people, as long as the wireless works!

This will prevent it from being included in most Linux distributions.

Alright so i am almost done getting in but the last step where i need to find the file wl.ko isnt working.

    the command is insmod /home/mjr4189/hybrid_wl_wl.ko
and it is coming back with -1 file exists when the file is clearly there in the folder.

i am logged in as root if that is any difference.
