Something tells me that it may be working. I don't remeber what distro and version you are using, but try connecting with NetworkManager. It is usually found in the taskbar next to the Date/Time.
You can also check for any available wireless networks, using a command:
Code:iwlist wlan0 scan

I am using Ubuntu 8.04. I see the icon next to the speakers and time in the top right corner of my monitor. Enable networking and enable wireless are both checked.
The scan result is below:
cousinlucky@cousinlucky-desktop:~$ iwlist wlan0 scan

So, it appears that it is indeed working! If you left-click on the NetworkManager icon, does it show any available networks? If not, then it is a NetworkManager problem.
You may want to just try a different wireless manager. I recommend using the Wicd manager.
wicd - homePaul

wicd is in synaptic if you wish to use it Cuz.

The thing has a " Edit wireless networks " that I do not know what to do with. I'll download the other one right away. Thank You Gentlemen. ps I have to get the fan problem straightened out. suse 10's quiet mode kept the fan from running so now I have a problem with it.
There wasn't a wicd in my synaptic package manager so I went to the link and got the instructions and followed them. I have to admit I was worried that when the gnome network manager was removed I would not get on the internet at all. I'm still here though.
How do I set up wicd to use USB wireless adapter?Linux registered user # 414321

You will have to add a repository before you can install it using the Ubuntu package manager. Just follow the instructions for Ubuntu on the Downloads page.
wicd - downloadPaul

Repositories are added and the key installed in the terminal. Wicd is in and the network manager is history. I do however need to know how to make wicd work. Thanks!!

You should find it in the menu somewhere. If that fails, you could follow the instructions on the Wicd download page, right above the installation instructions.
wicd - download
Code:wicd-client

With the different network manager i went back to see if the terminal results were the same but some have changed.
