At the risk of sounding ignorant, Have you gone into Network Manager (top r/h of top taskbar) and enabled wireless by checking the box?

Looks like your driver is installed is why I ask.

Don't like the looks of this though. Maybe Watehead will clear things up for ya when he shows up. I thought you ordered one that works outa the box with Linux.

The Edimax salesman assured me by email that it worked out of the box.

No Rokytnji I haven't paid that icon any attention since I installed Ubuntu. What am I supposed to do there?

There seems to be some confusion on the correct driver for this. This is because the the chipset ID apparently was reused for newer chips. See this post:

rt2x00.serialmonkey.com • View topic - IMPORTANT: RT2500USB hardware detection

The output of lsmod looks to be incomplete, as I don't see any wireless modules listed. Yet it refers to them, as if they are loaded:
Code:
usbcore 144108 9 rt73usb,rt2500usb,rt2x00usb,usb_storage,libusual,usblp,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd
Is this the complete output? Or did you possibly omit some modules. Please repost the full output.

It seems to have settled on using thr rt73usb module. That module should be the only one loading. It also may need firmware installed to work. Post the output of this command.
Code:
dmesg | grep firmware
If firmware is needed, it can be found here, use Firmware RT2501USB(RT2571W/RT2671):

Ralink Technology: Linux

Try that first, and see if it works.

I must be doing something wrong because the terminal did not do anything when I put in your new commands. I will look at the links you provided, Thanks!!

I still don't see any wireless drivers loading. Maybe because of the confusion, it didn't load anything. Since I think that it may use the rt73usb module, go ahead and load it.
Code:
sudo modprobe rt73usb
When I loaded it on my Fedora 10 system, this is what it loaded:
Code:
Module Size Used by
rt73usb 23680 0
crc_itu_t 5760 1 rt73usb
rt2x00usb 12160 1 rt73usb
rt2x00lib 33536 2 rt73usb,rt2x00usb
It is possoble that now it will look for firmware, if it is needed, so run that command again.

I pasted sudo modprobe rt73usb in my terminal and was asked for my password. I entered my password but the terminal did not do anything.

A few days ago I got a Fedora 10 DVD in the mail. Perhaps I should just give up on Ubuntu 8.04 because my Via graphics card is incompatible with it.
