If this is really important to you, then RHEL is not the best version of Linux for this. The best way is to use a recent version of NetworkManager, and the nm-applet. This is available in most newer Linux distros.

For example, I have Ubuntu 9.04. When I right-click on the nm-applet in the system tray, and select edit connections, it has several options including "Mobile Broadband". When I select Bangladesh as the country, it gives these options:

AKTel
Banglalink
Grameen Phone

If your connection is one of those, it is automatically set up.

You cannot get RHEL to do this. You may be able to manually connect, by using the wvdial terminal program. You also need to have the correct driver loading in order for the phone to work.

I have never used a wireless broadband device, so I am not absolutely positive how to do it. I believe that you will have to use wvdial. If you Google it, you will find a lot of information. Here's a start, with a wvdial wiki.

Wvdial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You also need to identify the driver needed for your modem, and see if RHEL has it.There is a good chance that it isn't in the RHEL kernel. If this connects to the computer via a USB cable, then hook it to the computer and run this command.
Code:
lsusb
Copy and post the output of that command. If you know the make and model of the modem, post that too.
