Suse has always worked great for me. But since the kernel update seems to have trouble with your system, then something must be broken. Suse 11.2 is scheduled for release in November, but you could try a testing version of it. Maybe that will work better. But you would still want to install the wl driver manually.

    Dear Paul,

After sleeping over my situation and having read your message, I was encouraged to give it another try. I will reinstall SUSE again. I have read many good reviews but now that my headache is gone I feel that this can be a challenge that I can also learn from.

I had to uninstall my Fedora since my XP got hit by a virus and had to make a reinstall of everything and you know what? I was able to make the -wl of Fedora run and it was because of the learning experience you walked me through before. the "back ticks" was very helpful

I will be back in a while after I make a reinstall of openSUSE.

    Thanks again!

    Hello Paul,

I had succesfully reisntalled the SUSE 11.1 and I need to consult you on something.

Should I make a separate thread in openSUSE regarding the problems in updates and continue only in this forum regarding the broadcom-wl issue?

It might be two different things, I think?

    That's not a bad idea.

Given the problems you have had updating, I would not update. I have found that you can make Suse keep older kernels after updating to a newer version. This way if it won't boot after a kernel upgrade, you can have it boot into the older kernel.

openSUSE Lizards Do You Want Multiple Kernels on Your System?

Pressing the Esc key before the kernel boots will usually show the list of available kernels. This way you can update, and not be afraid of loosing the entire system.
