Post Wireless Device Recognition for Ubuntu 9.10

Hello Linux forums!! I'm new to the Linux community so I don't know much about it now, but I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my hard drive and the PC I installed it on came fitted with a wireless device built in it. When I installed it I thought it would automatically recognize it like Ubuntu 9.04 but I was wrong, every time I click on network connections it tells me that wireless is disabled. I know all network connections ARE enabled, its just not recognizing the device, how can I it to recognize the device?
