    Atheros-based chipset? Use madwifi.

    Please post the output of
    Code:
    lspci
    lsmod
    iwconfig
This card should work with the ath5k driver, which is included. Although some people do have trouble with it.

One thing to try is getting updated drivers
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-jaunty
    restart

You can also try the options listed here:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...Driver/Atheros

Failing that, you can use the madwifi drivers. I think they are already installed, but if not
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install madwifi
You will then need to go into /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist as shown in the link above and remove or comment out the lines
    Code:
    blacklist ath_hal
    blacklist ath_pci
    And add the line
    Code:
    blacklist ath5k
However, madwifi depends on HAL, which is being deprecated. If you choose to upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 I think you can no longer use those drivers and HAL is completely removed from the upcoming Ubuntu 10.04.

Actually, it may be that simply upgrading to the latest Ubuntu 9.10 would fix your problem as well.

    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth0 no wireless extensions.

    pan0 no wireless extensions.
when I get to part of "sudo apt-get install madwifi" apears the message "E: impossible to find pak of madwifi"

then, I made ALT+F2 and open with "gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist" delete "blacklist ath_hal, blacklist ath_pci" and wrote "blacklist ath5k" and nothing happens.

I'd enter in he link you put here, but there says that changes can damage files and because I'm new in these I think its a risky to made changes

First, we need more detailed info. Read this thread:

    Wireless Setup - Start Here

Run the script in the second part, and post the results here.

Second, the madwifi drivers are no longer being developed, and soon they will no longer be maintained. Forget about them.

The driver for your card should already be in the kernel. Make sure that you do a full system update. This will require a wired internet connection. The updated kernel should give you a very recent version of the wireless driver.

    ok,
I was thinking... and frist I'm going to upgrade to 9.10 (not delete 9.04 and install 9.10), because that way ubuntu will be allready prepare to 10.04
If you think that action is not compatible with what we are doing here, or if you think is better reinstall it, please tell me (sorry to be so persistent but don't forgot I'm a begginner, thats why I still so insistent in this issues).
then I'll post here that part of the script.

I see no need to have two versions of Ubuntu installed. Upgrading an existing installation to a new version is possible, but most people will discourage it.

If 9.04 in a new installation, then replacing it with a fresh install of 9.10 should be no big deal. If you have been using 9.04 for a while, and want to keep it 'cause it is working, we should be able to get the wireless working on that.

If you want to keep the older version until the newer is functioning perfectly, I understand that, so go ahead and install both.

Did you upgrade 9.04 to the latest available kernel yet? That is the first thing that you should do. You actually should do a complete system update.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    Code:
    sudo apt-get upgrade

    ok,
if isn't what makes the difference I'll keep 9.04, but just let me tell that I install 9.04 two weeks ago.

    Thank you for the info!

I see that reed9's instructions to remove the unwanted driver was correct. But I see a third driver loading: ndiswrapper.

You never told us that you had ndiswrapper installed! That driver will throw a wrench into the best wireless driver, and prevent it from working.

I want you to remove all three drivers, then reload the ath5k driver.
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -r ath5k
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -r ath_pci
    Code:
    sudo modprobe -r ndiswrapper
    Now reload the ath5k driver.
    Code:
    sudo modprobe ath5k
Check to see if you now have a wireless device listed.
    Code:
    iwconfig
Please do not send Private Messages to me with requests for help. I will not reply.
