Built in Wireless Card - Ubuntu 9.10

I originally asked this in the Ubuntu area, but I guess this would be a more suitable place. I really appreciate any help anyone can provide. I am brand new to Linux, but I love it! I am just not used to all the codes and hacks and the like.

I have a built in wireless card in my laptop and I am running Ubuntu 9.10. I cannot turn my wireless internet on. I deleted windows and am strictly running Linux. I typed in the information from the sticky thread, and this is what I came up with.

    Code:

Hello. You're loading the wl driver, which is not correct for your particular broadcom card. You should be using the b43 driver.

First you need the firmware. If you have a wired connection do
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
Check in /etc/modprobe.d/ for a file called blacklist or blacklist.conf, not sure which in 9.10. Comment out any line with blacklist b43 if it exists.

    Code:
    gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
    (Or /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist as appropriate)

    So if this
    Code:
    blacklist b43
    change to this
    Code:
    #blacklist b43
and blacklist the wl driver by adding a line
    Code:
    blacklist wl
Reboot and see how it goes. If the b43 module doesn't load automatically at boot, force it to load by adding it to /etc/modules
    Code:
    echo b43 | sudo tee -a /etc/modules

I went through those steps, and for the firmware step I recieved this message:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
b43-fwcutter is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 9 not upgraded.
I went ahead and ran the rest of the codes as well, but it still isn't working. There was no b43 on my blacklist. My WLAN still will not turn on though.

    Code:
    lsmod
    and post
    Code:
    dmesg
That will be long so you may want to redirect it to a text file.
    Code:
    dmesg > dmesg.txt
You'll find the file in your current working directory.

You're still loading the wl driver, and still not loading the b43 driver. Ubuntu has that Hardware Manager thing, or Hardware drivers, whatever it's called, in the System Menu somewhere. I assume you installed the wl driver through that, since it doesn't come by default with Ubuntu?

Open that up and disable that driver. It also might have an option for downloading the firmware for the b43 driver.
