Need help installing USB WiFi adapter
The WiFi adapter I have is a Linksys Cisco, it comes with a cd to install, tried NDIS and wine and still cannot get it downloaded. It is a WUSB54GSC adapter. Please help, I need this so that I can use my desktop. Oh, I do not have Windows at all on my puter is now completely Linux Ubuntu 9.1. I do have the latest versions of wine and playonlinux, as well as NDISwrapper. I am stuck completely and yes I am a newbiee to ubuntu, but I do love it so far, just frustrated. GRRRR!

When I run the CD install for my adapter it gets so far then tells me this...
(WLAN_Cfg) "Access violation at address 00000000 in Module WUSB54GSC.exe Read of address 00000000."
It does that twice then tells me: (WLAN_Cfg) "EAcessViolation".Last edited by szeman; 04-07-2010 at 11:25 AM. Reason: additional info.

I never got a message of any kind when i ran lsusb. I just stayed blank forever...I ended up canceling the terminal run on that command after it sat for an hour with nothing there. Should I have let it run longer?
- 04-07-2010 #6
No, there should have been almost immediate output. I've never seen lsusb hang like that.
You're using Ubuntu, right? There's an alternate program for detecting hardware we can try. Post the output of

And just to be sure, you have the USB adapter plugged in during this, right?
It's not being recognized by the system. If you're able, I would plug it into a different computer and see if it is recognized. Or try a different USB slot. You might also want to boot up a live CD of a different distro and see if that sees the device, or if lsusb hangs still.
