Eh, well after two more hours of looking around I managed to figure out that linux was trying to connect to a non-existent network and after deleting that entry it ...

Eh, well after two more hours of looking around I managed to figure out that linux was trying to connect to a non-existent network
and after deleting that entry it magically worked
