[SOLVED] SUSE on Laptop-Linux sees my router, won't connect

I am not new to computers, but new to Linux. I am trying to get SUSE to work on an old Toshiba laptop so I can learn to quit using windoze.

Linux sees my router, a linksys, but it won't connect. I click on my network manager icon, enter the key,and click "OK". I get a blue box that pops up and tells me type, interface, hardware address, etc..., and under "status," it says "preparing to connect" for a few seconds then it just disappears and I'm not connected. I tried to enter as both a key and a passphrase with both options (enter as key, enter as passphrase)

I also tried to connect to an unsecured router (just to remove one thing from the equation) and had the same results.

I did a lot of reading and I ran the WirelessSetup executable.

I had three errors. All three were for "command not found." They were for lspci, ifconfig, and iwconfig.

Other than that, here is the output of the WirelessSetup exe.
    Code:

    Hello and Welcome.
We really need that missing info for us to be of any use to you. Try running the script again, as root or use sudo. If it still won't work, run the commands separately as root or use sudo.
I think Suse uses su - to login as root.
    su - (enter)

Try connecting again but this time when it fails, open a terminal window and issue this command please.
    Code:
    dmesg
Wlan0 is the device you need to be using.
I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

I'm not seeing anything wrong. Is there a switch on the laptop you need to press, to bring the Wireless up? Is it on? Post the output of
    Code:
    lsmod

I have a laptop with that wireless card, and the ath5k driver gave me no end of troubles, until quite recently.

There is another, older, driver available which may work better for you. Info on installing that here.

The other option is to build the latest compat-wireless package and see if an updated ath5k works better.

I feel like such a derka-derk! It was the stupid switch! I burn through laptops every couple of years and I remember that was one thing I liked about my old one and I missed it on this newer one. That one had a switch to activate the wireless!!!

I'm still puzzled as to how it saw the networks with the switch off... Hmmm...

Thank you for all of your help! I'd like to mark this thread as solved, but I don't see any special "option" for that. Maybe one more piece of help so I can close this thing???
