Problems connecting to internet, Ubuntu
Hi everybody,
This is my first post at this forum.
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo T machine. I have never discovered any problems regarding the WLAN. I can't see any available networks and i really don't know what to do.
I have read a lot of forum posts about this, but nothing seems to work for me (i'm a totally newbie). I have come to the understanding that the following information can help troubleshooting:
My kernel:

There's no pci wireless card listed, but you do have a driver for a usb wireless card showing up. Is this a USB wireless adapter you have? If so can you post the output of
Code:lsusb dmesg | grep firmware

Hi,
Thank you for your quick reply!
It is not a USB card. When i tried the lsusb, the only thing i saw was the mouse and keyboard.
How can i get it to see my network card?

If the linux kernel isn't seeing the card, that's a bigger problem. I guess I would check that it's seated correctly in your machine.
Check also the output of
Code:lshw -C network

The lshw command printed:
How can i check if the kernel is seated right? And is there any way to fix it if it isn't?Code:PCI (sysfs) *-network description: Ethernet interface product: NC100 Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 vendor: ADMtek physical id: 4 bus info: pci@0000:0b:04.0 logical name: eth0 version: 11 serial: 00:30:05:89:b4:8b width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical configuration: broadcast=yes driver=tulip driverversion=1.1.15 latency=64 maxlatency=128 mingnt=64 multicast=yes resources: irq:23 ioport:5000(size=256) memory:f0202000-f02023ff memory:41000000-4101ffff
Again, thanks for your help!

Sorry, I meant make sure your wireless card is seated properly in your machine. The Scaleo T is a desktop right? Did you buy it with a wireless adapter? Or did you put it in the machine yourself?

Okay!
Yes it's a desktop, 7 years old i think. I bought it with the network card preinstalled and i have never touched anything inside the machine...

You're positive it has a wireless network card? The ethernet card is showing fine, but I'm inclined to think there isn't actually a wireless card in there.

Positive! It has been working fine with Windows XP so far. It has a little LED-light on the front saying "WLAN LINK", and it's turned on :S

I just tried booting Ubuntu 9.10, and the wifi works perfectly fine! I think i will just go with this distro since i only need to do programming on the machine. I just need a distro with great support and lots of documentation!
I still find it weird that it doesn't work with 10.10 and #! 10...
Thanks again for your help!
