I cannot connect to internet in ubuntu
I am a new linux user. I cannot install the wireless device on my laptop. I have attached a text file that contains all the detailed information about my system. But briefly:
Dell latitude E5410
built-in wireless device
DW 1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-mini Card
Manufacturer: Broadcom
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4727] (rev 01) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:0010]
OS: Ubuntu 64bit (I downloaded and installed about one month ago)
I would be very grateful if you could help me with this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Ali

Hello and Welcome!

Looks like you'll just need to install the needed drivers for your wireless chip.
I don't personally have a Broadcom card, but I'm thinking this should get you going:
Enter that into a terminal, reboot, and see if it gets you going.Code:sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter

The wireless lan is not installed
Thank you for the response. I did run the command, and it downloaded, unpacked and installed something! without any error.
Then, I did reboot, but still the wireless driver seems to not be installed.
Could you tell me what the next step is?
Many thaks in advance,
Ali

Finally it is installed
Finally, the wireless card is installed. I am sending this email from linux!

Actually, I found the driver in this link:
broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php
and indeed after reading the readme file, I found out even I do not need to download the driver. it is already on the ubuntu. I just have to activate it.
Thanks again,
Ali

Wonderful! Here's one for ya!

Sorry that my command wasn't the one that got you going, but I am glad that you got the problem resolved!
And since you're the one that found it... another!
