Vostro 1500 Broadcom wireless problems, Linux Mint 11
I cant seem to get wireless to work in mint 11, which i find weird since it works fine in ubuntu and mint is essentially ubuntu with codecs.
I installed mint, restricted drivers popped up as usual, I installed them and... nothing happened. So I tried reinstalling, nothing, then i tried Ndsiwrapper(built into mint) and that installed nicely but again nothing changed. I still couldn't get any wireless. Idk maybe Im just missing something but when i click on the network connections icon on the panel in the bottom right there is no option to scan for wireless or anything. I tried manually adding the access point in manually but no dice. So Im not really sure what the deal is, any help would be nice. All the info needed should be below, I just ran the script from the "wireless setup - start here" thread.

You should follow a guide from [place for the URL]. Many have encountered a problem like yours and have successfully solved it by following the mentioned step-by-step guide.
If you continue to have issues with your wireless device, please be sure to note it and I will try to find another solution.

Well, it seems like I'm currently not allowed to post URL's, so I will add it to a private message. Anyone who wants to know the URL is free to contact me.
EDIT #1 [4:28] Actually, it would be easier for everyone to google "Broadcom Linux STA Driver".Last edited by Seraphiel100; 08-05-2011 at 02:26 AM.

Mint wireless networking problems.
Have you tried to use wicd? DId you enter same essid as the rest of your lan? Did you also enter same security code as tht rest of your lan?
I did not find Mint to be laptop and wireless friendly. Perhaps it's due to the wireless manager. That's why I suggested that you try wicd for wireless networklng.
Cheers!

Hello and Welcome!

Looks like you already have a wireless connection.Code:wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1d:09:bf:ff:d3 inet addr:192.168.2.12 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
Is this a manual configuration?Jay

no dice...
Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I things got busy at work so I didn't have much time to mess with the laptop but heres whats going on:
@onederer: I tried wcid and it would just say no wireless networks detected.
@Seraphiel100: I tried the broadcom sta driver that you linked me too and it wouldn't compile. It said a bunch of stuff was not found, I don't know what because the terminal would scroll by and close to fast.
@jayd512: wlan0 is my Ethernet port.

Odd... typically a wired connection is named eth0 and wireless wlan0.
What is the output of
Code:iwlist wlan0 scan
