I do have the setup CD that shipped with the adapter, but it doesn't seem to work on anything but windows. Also I tried several USB ports, but this is a mini-itx build and I the plan is to have this on one of the front USB ports (which is connected to my mobo).Code:============ lspci ============ 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge DRAM Controller [8086:0150] (rev 09) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: agpgart-intel 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller [8086:0162] (rev 09) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 00:14.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB xHCI Host Controller [8086:1e31] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: xhci_hcd 00:16.0 Communication controller [0780]: Intel Corporation Panther Point MEI Controller #1 [8086:1e3a] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: mei Kernel modules: mei 00:19.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82579V Gigabit Network Connection [8086:1503] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: e1000e Kernel modules: e1000e 00:1a.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 [8086:1e2d] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Panther Point High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1e20] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 1 [8086:1e10] (rev c4) Kernel driver in use: pcieport Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1c.7 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 8 [8086:1e1e] (rev c4) Kernel driver in use: pcieport Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 [8086:1e26] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation Panther Point LPC Controller [8086:1e4a] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel modules: iTCO_wdt 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation Panther Point 6 port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] [8086:1e02] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: ahci 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation Panther Point SMBus Controller [8086:1e22] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel modules: i2c-i801 02:00.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394) [0c00]: VIA Technologies, Inc. Right now I have a comically long cat6 cable running out of my room, down the stairs, across the living room and into the router. So, you may see an ethernet connection in the data dump from above.
Thank you so much!!

Did you check in the control center under "additional drivers" , see if it listed any drivers needed? If not try symaptic pachage manager and type in Broadcom. That will show drivers available for down load.

Thank you so much for your quick response! Unfortunately I am not having any luck with this.
I checked the Additional drivers area and it said there are no proprietarydrivers in use on this system. There are no drivers in that list at all. After I did an apt-get update, upgrade and installed the synaptic package manager, I searched for "Broadcom" and saw the wifi drivers you mentioned. I installed everything related to broadcom and wifi including source files.
bcmwl-kernel-source
broadcom-sta-common
broadcom.sta.source
b43-fwcutter
I restarted the computer and checked the additional drivers area again. nothing... Do I need to build the broadcom driver's source code?
I re-ran that script. Not sure if this will help though.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer my post and for your expertise!Code:============ lspci ============ 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge DRAM Controller [8086:0150] (rev 09) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: agpgart-intel 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller [8086:0162] (rev 09) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 00:14.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB xHCI Host Controller [8086:1e31] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: xhci_hcd 00:16.0 Communication controller [0780]: Intel Corporation Panther Point MEI Controller #1 [8086:1e3a] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: mei Kernel modules: mei 00:19.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82579V Gigabit Network Connection [8086:1503] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: e1000e Kernel modules: e1000e 00:1a.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 [8086:1e2d] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Panther Point High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1e20] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 1 [8086:1e10] (rev c4) Kernel driver in use: pcieport Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1c.7 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 8 [8086:1e1e] (rev c4) Kernel driver in use: pcieport Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 [8086:1e26] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation Panther Point LPC Controller [8086:1e4a] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel modules: iTCO_wdt 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation Panther Point 6 port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] [8086:1e02] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel driver in use: ahci 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation Panther Point SMBus Controller [8086:1e22] (rev 04) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2034] Kernel modules: i2c-i801 02:00.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394) [0c00]: VIA Technologies, Inc. Ok, I'm not working with 12.4 but on 11.4 top right next to the speaker icon your network icon should be showing. Click on that and see what it reads. You may need to turn it on. I remember one linux program that hid the wireless connections and you had to check the box to show the connections. You can also try going to system settings and look at any network settings you have there.

The networking menu (top right by the speaker icon) says wired network and there are no wireless networks. In my systems settings under "network" it has a "wired" tab and a "Network proxy" tab, but no "wireless" tab. There is no visible option to add/enable a wireless network adapter.
When I clicke edit connections on the top-right network menu (by the speaker icon) it does have a wireless tab, where I can add SSIDs of wireless networks manually. I added my home network SSID, password and encryption type, but it will not connect. Thanks again for the help though. Please keep it coming. I will try anything short of "rm -r /"

Ok, Update. I found something called ndisgtk that let me attempt to use windows drivers on ubuntu. Even these didn't work until I made my home network unprotected. But I installed ndisgtk and downloaded the windows xp driver, opened up the ndisgtk program and added the "INF" file from the manufacturer's driver zip file. This allowed me to see wireless networks nearby. Mine would still not connect until I removed wireless security.
Thanks all for your help. Is this ndisgtk program bad to use? if not, I'm up and running.
