I'm a linux virgin - help!
I've installed Debian sage on my DELL Inspiron notebook.
The eth0 network interface (UTP connection) works fine, but I can see no trace of the WLAN interface.
If I type the command "ipconfig" I get info for eth0 and lo, but nothing for the WLAN interface (wlan0 ??).
The notebook is set to dual boot, and the wireless interface works ok with Windows XP.
The wlan uses a Min PCI card containing a Broadcom chipset (BCM4318 WLAN-bg).
Any suggestion as to where I start on resolving this?

I've found a web site (http://bcm43xx.berlios.de) which states that the WLAN driver is incorporated into kernel version 3.6.17-rc2.
I'm running 3.6.8-2-386, so presumably there is no hope of me getting the WLAN working with my kernel version?
Can I simply get the newer version from somewhere? (how?)
Is it possible o rebuild my version of the kernel, but with additional source to include a new driver. If the latter is possible, could someone give me guidance as to how to go about this?
Hope the above makes sense - I'm new to this OS!
