error connecting
I just bought a new computer and outfitted it with a new TrendNet TEW-421PI Wireless Card. After several minor headaches, I installed the driver using ndiswrapper, but now it won't connect. I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 and the ndiswrapper that came on the Ubuntu installation cd. I configured it using the networking thing under administrative tools, entering in the name of my wireless network and the WEP key. However, it does not connect and the LED on the wireless card does not turn on.

First of all post the output of "sudo lspci" command. Also post the output of "ndiswrapper -l"

You seem to have the right drivers installed. Type "ndiswrapper -m", if no errors "iwconfig", should output a list with your wireless interfaces. Type "iwlist eth0 scan", where eth0 your wireless interface. Post if any problems occur

ndiswrapper -m... it says 'modprobe config already contains alias directive'. I don't know if that's an error or not.
iwist wlan0 scan... it says that it can't find the command 'iwist'.

oops, sorry.
OK, so 'iwlist wlan0 scan'...
Code:wlan0 No scan results

Something is wrong. If everything was right the output of the command should be the available networks. what does the output of "iwconfig" says?

I reinstalled Ubuntu with the latest version, 7.07. I found out that it's a problem with the encryption, so when I switched off the data encryption on my wireless network it worked fine.

I to have this wireless card.
But let me explain my predicament. I have used linux a few times and did basic installs of RedHat, Mandrake, and now I just got Ubuntu 7.10 a few weeks ago.
I to have this really crappy wireless card that likes to disconnect in windows xp sp3 every few hours for a few secounds. I use my machine for music production purposes mainly and email.
Now. I have installed Ubuntu Media edition 7.10 and everything works.....except my wireless card.....which is the one you guys were talking about above.
Anyways. After trying to install it with my Stepdad(who works as an server tech. on many differant linux machines around houston), we found out that the card would not stay put on the channel we would set it to and it would send out info but not receive info back....weird huh.....anyways yeah. I was wondering if you guys could help a linux user for a long time and a linux newb out. It would really appreciated.....Thank you for your time.
