Can't install Huawei E1752Cu wireless payg dongle

Hi all.

I've just got a Huawei E1752Cu wireless pay-as-you-go dongle and i'm trying to get it working in Ubuntu 9.10. I've tried installing it via the Network Connections tool, but it doesn't show up at all under "Mobile Broadband".

I've followed the instructions on waterhead's "wireless setup - start here" thread regarding the info i should post up: on that thread, waterhead posted a bash script to collect all of the required info into a single text file, the contents of which are copied below.

It looks like everything is working, can you open the network tool from the system tray and try to create a new wireless connection, the device should be named wlan1

Hi Mike, thanks. I think my systray options are named a little differently from yours - i clicked on the network icon in the top right, then "Create New Wireless Network" - is that the same as what you meant? The dialog that pops up looks like this:

I went ahead and tried to make a new network, putting in o2dongle for the name and 12345 for the key. But, it turned out that the ZyDas option was for my other usb wifi adapter, that i use to connect to local wifi, rather than my usb dongle: when i pulled out my regular wifi adaptor to see if i had a new functioning connection, that network disappeared.

So, i tried again with just the usb dongle plugged in: this time, i made a new network with the following details filled in:

I clicked create, got the 'busy' icon in the systray network manager for 30 seconds or so, then this dialog pops up.

I fill in the password i set (12345) and get the busy icon again for 30 seconds, then the same dialog again. This just repeats. Stumped...

You need to input the name of the network and password that you are trying to connect to. YOu might be able to do a scan from the command line to find the network name but you still need the password.

which goes through the process of adding a usb wireless adaptor via the Network Connections dialog. It's actually quite similar to the Mac setup process in the booklet that comes with the dongle. Part of the process is putting in "m-bb.o2.co.uk" for theAPN, then username "o2bb" and password "password". It doesn't mention anything about a network name and the aforementioned guide says to leave it blank.

I tried "sudo iwlist wlan1 scan" but get "wlan1 Interface doesn't support scanning.". I think wlan1 was my regular broadband usb adaptor, which i mentioned in a previous post. I've now got an ethernet connection and the dongle plugged in, and ran the shell script again, which comes out like this:
