is there a specific reason you are trying to use a distro from nearly 10 years ago?
latest fedora is 14, with 15 coming out soon, i advise you to use latest fedora if you are looking for red hat desktop linux
You know I have an old pc that I use for programming experiments. I need a server version with a server web and mysql, postgres... not a desktop version. Do not know much about Linux and its distributions, but I read that ubuntu requires 8GB as my pc has a 10GB hard disk available. Perhaps the portable version is right for me?
A full Ubuntu installation is fairly large, yes, but there are many lightweight but modern distros available, especially if you plan to run it purely as a server with no GUI.
You could go for something truly minuscule (but still very functional) like tinycore and slitaz, or go with something a little more hefty like Super Mini Server, or maybe start with a base system, say Debian, and add just what you want.
Thank you, thank you very much! I think I'll try Debian or if no good try the Slackware distro.
