HP Intel wifi 1000 not detected

Hi all

I have searched for a day and tried isntalling all sorts of microcode and hotplug etc with no luck. Basically I have Ubuntu 8.04LTS running on hp G71-340US laptop.

Looks like the It's the one called "Intel Corporation Unknown device 0084"...
The problem is I cannot use compat-wireless as the kernel is 2.6.24 and can't use the iwlwifi project because they are for kernels older than 2.6.26.

I also tried copying microcode for Intel wifi 1000 into /lib/firmware but still does not detect anything. Hardware Driver is empty as well.

Any advices would be greatly appreciated!!

Try installing the hardy backported modules package.

You should be able to update the pciids so you don't get the unknown device message as so

Thanks a lot! Now it detects the device in lspci. :)
However, i tried to reboot the system but still it does not seem to detect any drivers..

The problem is I cannot use compat-wireless as they only support kernel >= 2.6.25 and mykernel is 2.6.24 and can't use the iwlwifi project because they are for kernels older than 2.6.23.

I was hoping linux-backports-modules-hardy might include the newer driver.

Have you considered updating to a more recent Ubuntu release? 10.04 is out this week, I believe.

Only reason I stayed with Hardy was that when I tried Ubuntu 9 a week ago, one of my cross-compiler build (Xilinx microblaze tool chain) broke with memory overflow... whereas Ubuntu 8 had no problem.. I tried to rolling back GCC version to same as Ubuntu 8 (4.2) but still had same problem so i sticked with 8.

Maybe i'll give it a try version 10 and see if the problem is solved.
