I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my HP laptop. Wireless works fine on GNOME but doesnt work on KDE.
Any one know the reason and fix for this. Any help is highly appreciated.

Gnome and KDE use different wireless management tools. The Gnome tool probably is configured to automatically connect or reconnect if possible. Go into the KDE administration tools and find the wireless manager, or right click on the taskbar icon for the network, if it is there. If not, then you can configure it to be there with the wireless manager for kde. Since Ubuntu uses KDE 4, and I am only at 3.5.4 on CentOS that is about as far as I can take you.

I suggest you try installing wicd for KDE, it makes life a lot easier by helping you manage your Wireless connections.
Just use your package manager and search for wicd, read a couple of quick howtos and you'll be off to the races in no time.

I believe that you can start the KNetworkManager daemon through the menu. I'm not exactly sure where you will find it. Once it is started it should always start up automatically.
You may be able to start it with this command, but there may be permission issues.

Similar issues with Fedora 10, I think I am going to install gnome, but still going to work with KDE so I can use it later. I'll let you know what (if/when) I find out.Quote:
