Sending Messages over a network

First of all i would like to say hi, so Hi

Well here is the issue.


I remember when I was in school me and others that knew how were able to message the other computers on the schools network. Its since been a while and I have forgotten everything but the idea of it. I think we used command promt or something but not sure.


Basically on my home network I would like to be able to do that same thing. I have vista and a dlink wireless router which the laptop is hooked to.

I want to be able to send messages special over the network like i did in school. Basically to play some jokes on the others since they arnt very computer savvy.


2 of the computers are running Vista and the other is XP.

i dont know much about networking and messaging stuff but we use 'write' command to send messages over network. check its manual.
