[SOLVED] Unreliable Slow connection with no route to host
EDIT:
So let me describe my symptoms more acuratly. I can connect to my router just fine. ifconfig shows that an ip adress always gets successfully assigned. When I first start my computer and the connection it works, but only briefly. After a few moments everything stops working. When I look at my routers dchp list all I can see that the router recognizes my computer. I see one problem though. All of my windows computers hostnames are correctly seen by the router. On my xubuntu laptop, the host name is" (null) ". It should say "laptop7500" but for some reason It doesn't. Is the laptop not sending the hostname to the router? could this be a part of my problem? I tried dissabling ipv6 but that had no new effect. Below is my original post before this edit.
EDIT#2: So I found out how to send the host name on this page Ubuntu:Forums FAQ - PyKeylogger
It now sends the host name but I still have the same problem of a connetion that briefly works and suddenly stops. Why would it suddenly stop? I can't even ping the router with out it saying destination unreachable. Still Says I'm connected though. Someone please help.
I have xubuntu 8.04 installed on an old 600mhz 128mb laptop. I need to connect to the internet wirelessly which I've attempted to do via an Edimax 7318Usg usb wireless device. I have Wicd installed. The connection seemed to be working at first but now is unreliable and slow with speeds quickly flipflopping and then stoping completely alltogether. Speeds may initially be 45kB but then quickly drop to 14kB and then flip flop between nothing and 14kB.
If I try to update via synaptic I get an error message after a few minutes of the flipfloping described above and ultimately downloading new packages fails with something along the lines of Unable to fetch ... 113 no route to host. Loading web pages is also unreliable.
I coppied the last part of dmesg. I'm not sure what it means.
