WLAN for noobs!!

I plan on getting a USB stick thing for wireless networking. I wanna know, do I need drivers or are the drivers builtin to the OSes. I plan on using this in linux and in windows!! Do I just plug it in and it works like a flash drive does [no doftware needed its all in the OS, from what I hear Linuc will read flash without drivers. I know Win2000+ duz. With win98 u need driver. In Mac os 9+ including OS X u dont]

It depends on the chipset, maybe an Hermes or Aironet will work out of the box as the Linux kernel supports them.
Otherwise you may need an open source driver or in the worst case ndiswrapper

Wats "ndiswrapper"?? ANyways, if they work with linux will they say on the box?? Also will it work with al versions/distros of linux??

Some distros may recognize the card automatically and install it for you, it should work in all distros since all use the Linux kernel.

Are wrappers free?? I I just use the wrapper and the windows drivers that came with it??

So use NDISwarpper to use my Wndows Driver, and will this works with windows too, or just linux??

You won't need to use ndiswrapper on windows. Just use the regular windows driver.

ndiswrapper just allows you to use that same widows driver for linux.

I've had a helk of a time getting my Belkin usb 802.11g to work with the ndiswrapper. Good luck my friend. If I get it to work, I'll be in here and Linuxquestions.org telling anyone who wants to know how. :cool:
