First time installing...booting problem.

So I am not new to linux, but I've never dove head-first into the details. I burned the ISO (properly) and the autorun is a .bat.... if my memory serves me correct this is to make a bootdisk, but I could be wrong. I suppose what I'm getting to is it goes straight to windows rather than try to boot from the cd (the install), and my bios is correct because I even double checked it with a windows cd...it tried to boot from it just fine. Any suggestions? Anyone recommend a good universal boot disk?
