apt-get problem
Whenever i try to use apt-get now either to install, update or upgrade i keep getting the folowing error:
E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the download directory
What is this and how do i fix it?

This can also happen if you aborted a previous apt-get or Synaptic session prematurely. Look for a LOCK file in your rpm downloads section (the folder where apt-get and synaptic download packges) and delete it. Other with more experience in this can provide more specific details...

I was running apt as root. I didn't have another instance of it running including synaptic.
I tried to apt-get install gaim and it hung so i terminated the program, I took the advice above to delete the lock file and now it will start to install the programs but then just hangs here:
Committing changes...
warning: waiting for transaction lock
This is really annoying, i've never had a problem with apt-get before.

I was just using Yoper v2.1 and doing the apt-get goes well until later it gives me errors. Then I reinstalled and used synaptic and it just took more than 10hrs on installing XFree86 . I tried Yoper v2.2 devlopment gnome and it was nice (via vmware) fast on my amd athlon xp-m 2800+ 768mb ddr of course I expect everything to be fast here and the apt-get errors!!! , I tried yoper v2.2 development kde ver and couldn't even log in . so hopefully Yoper gets all these problems fixed! because it really is a good distro
