| You could but you could be there for ever tracking down dependencies. Try and get as many as possible through apt.
A better solution would be to see if there is a third party apt repository that has vlc packages for Yoper. I haven't had much luck finding a 3rd party repository but maybe you know of a good place to look (sorry, my Yoper knowledge goes as far as using it for about 10 minutes once).
