vlc and dependancies - Linux Forums

chipotlex Just Joined! Join Date: Feb 2006 Posts: 2	vlc and dependancies Hello First of all , I am new to this distro, and I am very impressed . Fast, even on pretty old pc ... I would like to install VLC 0.8.3 , I tried with a RPM for Fedora Core 3 . But because of dependancies I could'nt handle it . Any ideas Thanks in advance

johnny Just Joined! Join Date: Feb 2006 Posts: 1	Hi I just resently install vlc player with yum in fedora core 4. It work right away without any problems. Here is how I did it. first open konsole, type 'su' then your password for administrator rights Then finally type 'yum install vlc' And now your system will install vlc player without any problems Hope this helps. He is using Yoper and your instructions are Fedora specific. As for Yoper I believe it uses apt. Have you tried from the command line (as root):

apt-get install vlc

chipotlex Just Joined! Join Date: Feb 2006 Posts: 2	thank you for your answers . Yes I have already tried to use apt get but Vlc is not in the Yoper 's depository . To resolve the dependancies : the system lacks 10 libs , is it possible to install them by hand one by one .....? Alex

A better solution would be to see if there is a third party apt repository that has vlc packages for Yoper. I haven't had much luck finding a 3rd party repository but maybe you know of a good place to look (sorry, my Yoper knowledge goes as far as using it for about 10 minutes once). mahlerfan Linux Newbie Join Date: Jul 2005 Posts: 181	Just use yum to install the missing libs you need. Or just download the latest versions from the web, it doesn't take as long as you might think. Libs are fast to install.
